Coffee… oftentimes referred to as the “nectar of the gods” – or is it wine that is called that? Some like to drink it black, and some like to drink it as sweet as molasses. You’ve probably heard the term – ”double-double”, or “ triple- triple” at drive through or in passing with your friends. That means two (or three) sugars, and two (or three) shots of cream or milk. The problem with that is sugar isn’t good for you.

While sugar in coffee can make it taste much better than the original bitter drink that we all have come to know and love, sugar is by far and large bad for you. Small quantities are usually okay, but in larger doses sugar does more harm than good.
Sugar has lots of calories and can cause unwanted weight gain, as well as clog your arteries. On top of all that, sugar can cause you to have “sugar crashes” which is basically your body trying to detoxify itself after you ingest what it considers to be poison (sugar). Sugar crashes cause you to become tired and can sometimes give you a headache, which kind of counteracts the coffee that you put the sugar in.
There are quite a few natural ways you can sweeten your coffee, like by using honey, molasses and cream or milk, but these may not sweeten your coffee as much as you may like. If you like your coffee to be very sweet, then these options are probably not the best options for you.
There are a lot of really great and healthy alternatives to sugar in your coffee available online. These products will give you a really nice ‘sugar- like’ sweetness without as many calories and potential for adverse health effects.
